Amazon Kindle now available on iPhone

Just one month after the release of an update version and the –sometimes heated – dispute between the Author’s guild and the electronic company, Amazon went another step further in establishing itself as the leader in electronic reading by adding the Kindle software to the iTunes Application Store.

“Amazon’s software application, which can be downloaded free of charge, allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to read books or periodicals purchased on the Web or through their dedicated Kindle device, usually for $9.99,” reports Geoffrey Fowler of the Wall Street Journal.  “Using a service that Amazon calls whispersync, the program keeps track of a readers’ latest page in any given book across both a Kindle and iPhone.”

One has to wonder if they will allow the software onto Sony’s ebook reader as the company said they will allow the Kindle software onto other devices.  You have to wonder if the Kindle reader is being a success to Amazon if they branching out to other devices.

I don’t think the Kindle is a success, even though no one knows how many Kindles have been sold as Amazon refuses to release the exact number of units sold.

This is a smart strategy for Amazon, get your product onto other devices like the iPhone/iPod.

I won’t be getting this app on my touch, text will be too small to read.
