If you needed proof that newspapers are in trouble because of new media, here are stories about layoffs in the newspaper industry in the past two weeks:
- LA Times to cut 250 positions, print less pages
- Tampa Tribune to cut 1/5 of newsroom
- Baltimore Sun to eliminate business section; cut 100 jobs
- Hartford Courant to cut 60 newsroom jobs
- Chicago Tribune to cut 100 jobs
- Palm Beach Post to cut 300 jobs, 150 from newsroom
. . and TV stations aren’t alone as well, although not as much as newspapers
- WFLA – Tampa to eliminate 10 jobs
- KNTV – San Francisco/San Jose/Oakland eliminates 8
- WOIO/WUAB – Cleveland lays off six
- KTLA – Los Angeles cuts 7
So the real question is: Can you blame the economy or slow spiral death-watch of the newspaper industry?
