Blackberry service interrupted in North America

Blackberry users on Sprint, Verizon and AT&T are reporting outages affecting sending and receiving email; voice and SMS were not affected.

In an email sent to CNN, RIM said Blackberry users:

“may be unable to send or receive messages and may also be unable to “register their device, roam in another location, or use other services such as Internet browsing.”

All three telecommunications providers were informed of the outage at 3:30PM EST.  CNN is reporting that the service has been restored to Sprint Nextel and service, as well as a backlog of email, should be resolved soon.  Service was also restored to Verizon as well.  No word on AT&T or service is fully restored on all three providers.  Users are reporting to engadget that the outage is affecting 50% of blackberry customers, T-mobile was somehow not effected by the outage and some users on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint were not effected at all.  Wasn’t there another blackberry outage over the weekend?
