Guess what’s back, Microsoft and Yahoo

This is starting to sound like the beginning of Days of Our Lives. Like sands through the hour glass, so are the Days of our Lives. Just when you thought that the Microsoft-Yahoo dead was on again, off again, on, off, on, off, now comes word it’s on again but with a twist.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Microsoft is looking for partners to make a new bid for Yahoo. Speculation of partners include News Corp and Time Warner.

Rather if this will work is still up in the air as CNet is reporting that Microsoft canceled a meeting with a Yahoo board member, met with Carl Icahn to continue with his proxy fight, and have received suggestions to try again for a new bid.

The newspaper, suggests though, that because Microsoft canceled a scheduled meeting with Chairman Roy Bostock on Monday, that perhaps it is not finding any willing compatriots for a Yahoo move.

The paper also reports that Microsoft has met with Carl Icahn in recent days, urging the billionaire to keep pressing his proxy fight in an effort to motivate Yahoo’s board.

Microsoft declined all comment. However, sources have told CNET News.com that large investors and at least one Yahoo director have been urging Microsoft to make a renewed bid for Yahoo’s search business. Microsoft is said to be weighing such an offer.

I don’t even know why I’m reporting this. Even if a deal went through, would it clear the Department of Justice? I’m willing to bet that the EU will not approve of the deal because of their stance against Microsoft.
