First week of real blogging

The Siggraph conference is over and what an exciting week it was.  Actually it wasn’t.  This conference was completely different than what I though it would be.  I thought the conference would be about how video games and animation movies are created.

The conference was more on the science of computer animation.

Even though the conference wasn’t up to my expatiation, I made myself cover it (even if I had no clue how to cover it).  This was an excellent test to cover events and news on my new site, controlalttv.net.

Here are some of the items I noticed when reporting on my site.

Netbooks suck

I used a HP mininote netbook to cover the event and it was really lagging.  Even with a 16GB solid-state drive, it was incredibly lagging.  When I launched Live Writer, the program took an minute to completely load and another minute to start typing.  There were times when the computer wouldn’t  accept my typing.  Even with an extended battery, I had a three hour battery life.  Thank goodness the convention center had plenty of outlets (and personal, private space on the fourth floor).

Besides the problems, the screen was too small and not enough processing power.  Now the new question will be should I upgrade the netbook to 10’ or 12’ notebook or wait for the new Apple tablet.  I won’t be upgrading anytime soon.

I need a new digital camera

I was using my mom’s old digital camera, the Kodak EasyShare CX7430 4.0 megapixel camera.  If you look at the photo gallery, most of the images were blurry and the zoom is only 3x.  My new camera needs to be small and capture incredible photos.

I need a new video camera

Just like my digital camera, I need a new video camera.  I’m using a Kodak Zi6.  Its a great mini camera that shoots in 720p but it doesn’t have a microphone input.  I don’t know if I’ll upgrade this camera.

I need a recorder with a better microphone

This is something I definitely need.  My cheap digital recorder has a very weak microphone however it does have a microphone input.  I could add an external microphone.  It would be better if I didn’t have to use an external microphone.

AT&T sucks

The title explains it all.  With the popularity of the iPhone, AT&T has become a completely useless network.  I don’t even have an iPhone and my phone doesn’t work.
