Google Android delayed

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Google’s Android software for phones will be delayed until the 4th quarter of 2008 2009.

Google now says that the handsets won’t arrive until the fourth quarter. And some cellular carriers and makers of programs that work with Android are struggling to meet that schedule, people familiar with the situation says.

Why Google is delaying Android:

  • Google says they put too much time into T-Mobile Android device and not into other providers; like Sprint, which finally decided to get with Google.
  • China Mobile is also delaying an android phone until 2009. WSJ didn’t say why, but GigaOm is reporting English-to-Chinese translation problems.
  • Main reason (my opinion): Google keeps updating the code for software and many are complaining about the difficulty of developing software for the phone

If you listen carefully, Apple and RIM are laughing and congratulating themselves.
